Social Security Disability (SSD) Attorneys
Is a physical or mental health impairment keeping you from earning a living? If your disability is severe, you may qualify for Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits.
In order to qualify for SSD, you must meet a number of criteria, including:
- You must have a qualifying illness or impairment. There are numerous qualifying impairments. Some of the most common include orthopedic injuries, heart disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, depression and anxiety.
- Your injury must have lasted at least 12 months, be expected to last at least 12 months or be expected to result in death.
- You must have worked enough prior to your injury to have paid into the system through FICA taxes.
At Torrisi & Torrisi, P.C., in North Andover, we are well-versed in the SSD requirements and can help you determine if you qualify. Our Social Security Disability attorneys will work with you personally to guide you through the system. We help clients with initial applications as well as written appeals and in hearings before Social Security Administration officials.
As a full-service injury and disability law firm, we can represent you in your SSD or SSI claim, workers’ compensation claim and personal injury claim.
Supplemental Security Income
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is similar to SSD in that it provides benefits for those who are unable to earn a living due to an illness or injury (medical condition). SSI, however, is not dependant on work history. If a disability is keeping you from earning a living and you have not worked enough to qualify for SSD, you may be eligible to obtain SSI benefits. Medical eligibility for SSI claims is determined in the same way that it is for SSD; however, your assets are also taken into consideration.
